Plasma-wall transition in weakly collisional plasmas
This paper reviews some theoretical and computational aspects of plasma-wall interactions, in particidar the formation of sheaths. Some fundamental residts are derived analytically using a simple fluid model, and are subsequently tested with kinetic simulations. The various regions composing the plasma-wall transition (Debye sheath, colUsional and magnetic presheaths) are discussed in details.

DIVERTOR PLASMA PHYSICS EXPERIMENTS ON THE DIII–D TOKAMAK. In this paper we present an overview of the results and conclusions of our most recent divertor physics and development work. Using an array of new divertor diagnostics we have measured the plasma parameters over the entire divertor volume and gained new insights into several divertor physics issues. We present direct experimental evide...
متن کاملDivertor design for the tokamak physics experiment
In this paper we discuss the divertor design for the planned TPX tokamak, which will explore the physics and technology of steady state (1000 s pulses) heat and particle removal in high confinement (up to 4 × L-mode), high beta (up to /3 N = 5) divertor plasmas sustained by non-inductive current drive. TPX will operate in the double-null divertor configuration, with actively cooled graphite tar...
متن کاملNumerical simulation of plasma-wall interactions in weakly collisional plasmas
Eulerian Vlasov codes, which solve the kinetic equation on a fixed phase-space grid, have become increasingly popular in the fusion plasma physics community. Their main advantage is the lack of random statistical noise inherent to particle-in-cell (PIC) calculations. Although they do require a somewhat larger computational effort compared to their PIC counterparts, Eulerian codes are now able t...
متن کاملMagnetic reconnection in weakly collisional highly magnetized electron-ion plasmas
A reduced three-field model of two-dimensional magnetic reconnection in a weakly collisional, highly magnetized plasma consisting of isothermal electrons and cold ions is derived from a set of Braginskii-like fluid equations. The model is then used to calculate the linear growth rate of the reconnecting instability in collisionless and semicollisional parameter regimes. © 2010 American Institut...
